As was stated on the programme, the list was taken from the list published by 'Rolling Stone' magazine, an american publication; 'nuff said?

To be honest I don't think Hank would feature in my "100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time" list, but he would still be in the top five of my "Most Influential Guitarists of all Time" and firmly at the top of my "Favourite Guitarists of All Time" (which is the one that matters most).

When does Vic Flick (another Brit, of course) ever get a mention in such polls, but then who really cares, and I'm sure he wouldn't either? As Martcaster suggests, it's all pretty irrelevant, anyway!

Not much point getting worked up about this list- george harrison better than peter green!!!! Love george but...hang on kurt cobain better than peter green....
I dunno, all you can do is choose 100 guitarists and say why they were good at their instrument or why they were influential...Jeff Beck is a brilliant technical guitarist but what he plays theses days just makes me laugh, horrible music.
Ranking guitarists/groups/singers/musicians in general doesn't really work. They have different things to offer that can't truly be compared. You can have a personal preference but a ranked list is only useful for a talking heads tv show or a crap rag like rolling stone which hasn't been cutting edge for more than 30 years.
However, in the interests of contradiction i nominate Jimi and Peter Green in a dead heat. Peter's best work can be heard on the 50+ concert tapes that circulate from the Fleetwood Mac era. You think Hank's been forgotten...try finding a non guitar player who's heard of Peter Green..Britains finest guitarist until his breakdown in 1970. Also his praise for Hank made me go back and rediscover The Shads who i now like more than ever, both as a music fan and as a guitarist who's non appearance in the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time was met with incredulity by his 9 year old drummer son (who thinks Keith Moon and Ringo are the best drummers ! )

Hi all,
I'm sorry I have to dissagre with the postings regarding the fact that some people don't know who Hank is and that we should all agree to disagree. the fact is that for many years the Shadows & Hank have been ignored by radio & T V. Is it because they are frst and foremost good at what they do? or the fact they have never had any negative reports against them for behaviour in puplic? Not all todays radio presenters are so young they don't know who the Shadows are. A lot of it is the fact that the radio controllers decide who AND what gets played!! Although in saying that one paticular gripe I do have with presenters is the fact that they cannot read a playlist from a CD cover or a contoller cannot/will not put the full inf on the playlist e.g this afternoon on our local station Westsound/Clyde2, Garry Marshall played I Could Easily Fall In Love With You by Cliff Richard. Now Garry is at anage where he should & does know that this was recorded by " Clif & The Shadows", so why do these guys tend to ommit this?
Back to not playing the Shads themselves, I have asked Gary & a few other presenters why this is the case and the usual comment is it's all down to the controller. When you try to contact the controllers they don't even have the decency to reply. So why don't these guys put your thoughts to the controllers? Basicly don't rock the boat, they're scared of their jobs!!! & *%&!! the rest of us
Well thanks anyway for giving me the chance here to put my tuppence worth in & letting me rave on a bit, but it saves me taking it out on the dog!!!! ;)

Cheers, Ian
