I had a Squier JV (Japan Vintage) series '50s Strat for a few years, but eventually sold it on. It was one of the early models, made in 1983, in Olympic white with Maple fingerboard. It was an extremely well made guitar, & felt right in your hands, if you know what I mean. The let down was the pickups, which sounded weak & tinny & no guts. But, the guitar itself was a really top quality instrument. I don't subscribe to the mythical status that that particular series has in certain people's views,

Tony.

The more I play on this guitar and the more I work on the neck, this instrument is now feeling great. I love the feel of the neck now. once I've played it in a bit and at the next string change, I'll file the frets down a bit and smooth them. When I use vibrato, I can feel the strings catching the small ruts on the unfinished frets. I like the sound I'm getting at the moment at a low volumes but were I to take it to gig it'd definately need a pickup upgrade for sure.
The paint finish on it is fantastic. You'd never see any difference between this and a proper Fender. The back of the neck is just plain wood, this is the first guitar I've had like that and once polished my hand glides up and down with ease.
When I was coming back from the shop I was thinking that I should have opted for the more expensive model but now I'm glad I got this one after playing it for a couple of days. You cant go wrong at this price 8-)
