I played in a 'group competition' (didn't win!) at the Tottenham Royal in the early sixties, where we shared the stage with the Dave Clark Five. The DC5 had just had their big hit Glad All Over. Apparently they had to fulfil their contract with the Royal for their Friday night residency there. I remember how incredibly loud Lenny Davidson's guitar sounded through the Vox AC30.

R.I.P. Rick.

Martin.

There are three good instrumentals on the first album, including an effective cover of Link Wray's Rumble. Theme Without A Name is a nice guitar tune with strings and wordless vocal backing.

If I recall correctly there was a DC5 Instrumental LP released in Canada only in the 60's.
In lieu of an official CD release, and I'm sure we'll never see one, I compiled my own
DC5 instro CD with 18 tracks. Some very good, some OK, but a few 'fillers' as well!
Cheers JB

Good band and a good solid bass player...RIP Rick.

I recall that a five piece lineup of that type was often considered to be the best and most versatile back then, because with guitar, keyboard and sax/reeds as well as bass and drums, bands could tackle almost any style if they could all play competently and if at least one or more of the band members could sing..and it was often thought that five members was about the limit for the economics of getting bookings and managing/organising the band and its logistics/transport/gear etc

The economics of running a larger group is a pertinent point, and I recall the early 60s seven-man lineup of Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers, although the number was trimmed in subsequent years.
