I'm sure it was merely an oversight

You may well think that, but I couldn't possibly comment.

Does anyone know Roy Lemmon, the roadie?
He might have some nice stories abour Shadows' gigs.

Roy and I were friends as I worked at the same company as his wife Sue, we would get together when he was in town.
Roy was not only the roadie but a very good sound engineer who both Cliff and The Shadows used on tour, in fact Roy was the on Cliff's Japan tour which has been mentioned before where the "Brian Bennett Band" backed him and the album Cliff In Japan was recorded.
He then went on to work with Emerson, Lake and Palmer "The 3 truck Tour", Diana Ross and Elton John among others.
Unfortunately I lost touch with Roy when My wife and I went to live in Canada and have not been able to track him down since our return.
And yes he had many stories which he entertained us with. And no I don't remember any of them now.

I forgot to mention "the van" was on my drive overnight Boxing Day night with all the gear in it, I didn't sleep a wink worrying about what might happen, and it was a blue Bedford van. And to the best of my knowledge that was prior to the robbery.

Hank probably wasn't bothered too much about it because from what I have read in the past, they didn't own the Burns guitars themselves, they were the property of Burns and were given to The Shadows to use.

Bruce still owns his two, a white and green Marvin. ;)

That might well have been the deal in the days when Burns, and then Baldwin-Burns, were operating. But all that had stopped by 1972, when the two Marvins were stolen from the van. Baldwin was no longer a UK entity and had closed down its factory (the former Burns facility). Even today, Hank still has his two Double-Six guitars (one of them a prototype), as well as at one time owning the white Burns bass formerly belonging to John Rostill. And Bruce still has (and presumably owns) his own white Marvin.

Reports of Cliff and MWF tours of the period (and just earlier) have Hank sometimes using a Strat on stage even when the Marvin was still available to him, with the guitarist in the Brian Bennett Orchestra occasionally seen to be using a (perhaps the) Marvin. My guess is that Hank wasn't all that bothered about the loss (although he must have been miffed to some extent, and also about the loss of one or more Gibson jumbos) because he'd already half-decided to return to Fenders.

Hello,

It' seems clear that Hank prefered the Strat (at least when I read the various comments) but there is one thing which always surprises me: Hank said he was happy when the Burns Marvin guitars were available, he likes the sound and playability, etc... (at least in the beginning) so why did he play on these guitars so long if in fact he was not so happy with? I can understand there was a contract with Burns which "forced" the group to play these guitars but nevertheless I have trouble to imagine they could'nt change and came back to Fender.

If someone could tell me about, thanks!

Best regards to all of you

Pierre
