Well a difficult one.
Bass Guitar magazine, is fairly recent and tends to concentrate on post Shads bassists, but they published a headline article/tribute to Jet when he passed away. There are occasional snippets about Shads bassists. The current issue has a fairly detailed article about the tall Vox AC100, which Paul McCartney and many other 60's groups used for bass. It traces the history of Vox bass amps from the AC15 (according to the author, Vox made a bass version for Jet), AC30 used by Jet, early AC100 (an AC30 cab with 2 by 15 speakers) , T60 (let down by reliability problems) up to the tall AC100.

Generally most current guitar mags are authored by a younger generation, but most I've read, do recognise the enormous influence of the Shads.

The capacity for Shadows fans to be consistently surprised by how little the general public cares about a band whose popularity with that general public waned over 20 years ago never ceases to amaze me.

I really can't see why.

Just think how long it's been since Django Reinhardt, Charlie Parker or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were popular with the general public (if ever). Even in fifty years' time - if I were only here - I would expect any critical appraisal not to insist that there was no music worth the name before Beethoven, or that there were no decent guitarists before George Michael.

I recently contacted the "hall of fame" organisation to express my disbelief that the Shads had not been inducted..still awaiting a reply, no idea of rock n roll history these idiots

I shall do.

That's interesting, Luigi. There seems very little information on Vox bass amps. I hope that article will be accessible on the net one day. A friend of mine had a full set of Vox amps for his teenage band in about 1964. It included a bass amp, which looked like an ordinary AC30. He recalls there was the sign"bass" under the Vox logo on the front.

Another poll of supposedly "the greatest" and /or "of all time" which is crazy as the world will not end tomorrow. Those voting surveys are not all that relevant as voters would have to have seen and heard every band going back 60 years. Not likely that this is the case especially where many voters are in the younger age group and were not even born until many years after rock started.

In addition where Ringo Starr features as one of the greatest members rhythm section sums up the standard of the vote.

Whoa...

Ringo may not have been the greatest drummer in The Beatles, but what he played for the Fabs was E X A C T L Y R I G H T.

Indeed indeed indeed

Ringo was fine. On the LOVE remix album his contribution really stands out.
