Even though some of these offers sound really tempting, I think they are basically "a cat in a bag," as we say in my country. Alan Bakewell used to say: "Life is too short to buy cheap guitars" (which does not necessarily mean they have to be exorbitantly expensive). Even if I wanted to by a cheap Strat for my grandson to start playing, I would go for one of those Squier Affinity models for beginners. They are quite inexpensive. As for myself, as I said, "life is too short to buy cheap guitars"!! :D

There's current thread on the jazz guitar newsgroup discussing the same topic. Someone had found what purported to be a Chinese auction site (apparently similar to eBay) with a Gibson Super 400 CES with a ridiculously low Buy It Now price (around $500 USA).

Needless to say, no-one has any confidence in receiving a Super 400 from the seller...
