I remember being really surprised (and disappointed) to see that 'Jet' had cut his hair really short and changed the colour! What I hadn't been made aware of prior to this show, was that he'd been replaced by Brian Locking hence my puzzlement at this strange-looking Jet persona! This was the first 'concert' I'd ever been to and was dressed in my non-school, Sunday best outfit of C&A sports coat, fawn cavalry twill 'slacks', horizontal-striped, shiny narrow tie with squared- off ends and brown shoes. Managed to get a seat in about the 3rd row from the front, so had a good view of all the gear. I was completely mesmerised by the whole experience. Was also the first time that I'd made the trip unaccompanied from my home on the Wirral over to Liverpool. Wild, exciting times eh........?

A variety performance (top of the bill) for the week commencing Monday 23rd April 1962.

You don't mention the absence of Bruce, so you must have been there on the Monday. He was taken ill that evening and was replaced for the rest of the week in Liverpool by Peter Carter of the Checkmates.

I was there on the Tuesday.

Hi, I first saw The Shadows at The Palais Royal Theatre, Geelong, Victoria, Australia in 1968.
So enthralled with the show that I saw them again a couple of nights later at The Shepparton Civic Centre which is more that two hundred miles north of Geelong.
Got some photos of the event but the quality is poor. They opened with Chattanooga Choo-Choo using Burns Guitars.
Wanted one straight away however not available in Australia at the time so back to the Strat. Got one now though :D

Regards to all

I first saw them in Cannock , my Mom took me so I would have been about 12.
That puts it at around 1960,61.
I was mesmerised.
Anyone got the exact date ?

( I also saw Roy Rogers and Trigger in Wolverhampton with my Mom but that would have been earlier )

First time wasn't until 1967 which was quite late as by then I had seen a good few package tours. The venue was the Winter Gardens Bournemouth and I think the Erjc Delaney Band were also on the bill. Second and only other time was The Final Tour at Bristol's Colston Hall.

Wow! I didn't know that Roy Rogers & Trigger toured!
I was a big fan and my sea captain dad once brought home a hand-tooled Roy Rogers double gun-belt complete with engraved & monogrammed, silver pistols with dummy 45 cal. bullets from the states. That was back in the mid. to late '50's and subsequently both my sons have played with the set over the years. The belt is still mainly intact, but only one of the pistols and no bullets remain. No kids play at cowboys any more....
Just a bit of off-topic trivia for you Ecca!
Stephen.

Bit of a deja vu here, see

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7791

This is what I wrote then...

For the first time live, Rotterdam april 79 with the late George Ford.....
Then all the tours (incl. Hanks)multiple times 6 or 7 times, sometimes in one week
Met all of them multiple times backstage....genuine nice blokes, even Cliff a few times.
Did also a 45 minutes interview with Hank and also one with Brian for the Dutch fan club.
Hank invited us for the sound check ...that was a real eye opener ;)

Cheers Rob

I first saw The Shadows at the Bristol Coltson Hall in '61/'62. I was 15/16. I remember shouting 'Good ole Hank' (well I was only 15 or 16) they heard me because I remember Bruce smiling. I came home with a sore throat. The last time I saw them was in Norwich in 2004. I saw two shows and was a little disappointed when I discovered that the "Ad lib" comments weren't - as they were part of the act. I met Bruce at the stage door after the show. Hank had apparently rushed off as soon as he left the stage. There was an elderly Merc outside with the number plate Pop 1 which I assumed was Hanks car. Both shows were brilliant. A good sound and of course well played both houses were fully booked some weeks prior to the show.
