Dear all: It occurs to me that I may have used an improper or impolite word in my original post and, if so, I want to humbly and sincerely apologise. I see from your replies that it would have been appropriate for me to have used the word "ginger" if I felt the need to describe Licorice's hair colour. The word I used instead, which I shall not repeat, is a word that in the US has no negative or disrespectful meaning or inference, but perhaps in the UK or elsewhere it is considered slang or improper, and I had no idea that was the case. If so, I owe Mr. Locking and you an apology if I used an offensive word. I am very sorry.

Respectfully,
Donna

What a perfectly disgusting word 'ginger' Donna.
Sackcloth and ashes time methinks.
Take one hundred lines ; 'I must not use the word 'ginger',
You must say instead; 'carrot bonce'.

Donna,

'Ginger' Meggs was a legendary cartoon character in Australian newspapers, and there are a few famous musicians with the nickname 'Ginger' (Ginger Baker for instance), so I suggest you simply forget it, don't worry about it. Of course there is the other trend that people with 'red' hair are often called 'Blue' (my brother is one such) so on it goes.........

And just to get the ball back on track, here's a black haired Jet Harris playing Bass with that other bloke (not Tony Meehan) playing drums. No Tele though.

Having just read my last meassage and gone back through the thread I now realise that I was 180 degrees out in the comment -it was 'red' not 'ginger' that was in question. Duh!!!!!

In any case, nothing wrong with 'red' either IMHO - that term is not offensive in the Australian situation and I'm sure the singer in 'Simply Red' never minded it either!

You're fine, Donna. It's not a problem here and Licorice isn't the kind of guy to get fussed over such a thing anyway!

Licorice, a true gentleman, was given a warm welcome from the audience for his first visit in Finland. Performing for a sold out concert at Helsinki Savoy Theatre 3.3.12.

Here seen on stage with Swede Johnny Lundin, who was the lead guitarist for the group The Adventures / The Wild Ones. They succesfully toured in Finland in the early 60`s backing Norwegian / Scandinavian rocker Jan Rohde.
