Did someone say once that Bruce Welch went to an organised Shadows event done by Pat Terrett I think in 1990's, Bruce saw it and liked it and had thoughts and so Shadowmania was born from those events. Point I am making is if it happened before Shadowmania it can happen again with or without BW organising and running the show himself. Just a thought and yes the Birmingham location sounds a great spot for it all facilities and road and airlinks plus hotels to cater for an international gathering in future.

Well what about a giant club do then ?
I could organise a belly dancer, I'm sure Al Bakewell would do it pretty cheap.

Great to read everyone's posts.

I've been to three Shadowmanias - 2010, 2011, 2012 - and they were all fantastic, in their own way.

Yes Shadowmania has to end on the huge high that we experienced last weekend. Irt wouldn't be the same without Bruce's stamp all over it.

But that doesn't mean there can't be another annual big event. Where else would we be able to see a collection of fantastic tribute acts?

But I think there still needs to be a top of the bill act.

My suggestions would be:

Jean-Pierre Danel - some great Shads covers and guitar tunes
The Ventures - their versions of all the Shads tunes they did
Duane Eddy

All with special guests appearances from Licorice, Bruce and other Shads.

Dave

I didn't think that Lakeside would be that much, it was an estimate for other venues.

Appart from holiday camps I can't think of any other venues in the south of England that would seat that many, I know further north there are larger club style venues, but I doubt you'd be able to monopolise them for a function, and then you have the problem of hotel accom, and the cost.

However, what we do have down here at smaller venues typically 250 seat cabaret nights, you get 5 course dinner, disco and a tribute act for around £35.00, so our younger acts, if they put themsleves about, could maybe look at offering their services there, I can give contact details for a couple of Kent venues, whether they would be interested or be preparred to pay enough would be another question, but I know several acts that have appeared come from a long way north, Sheffield way from memory, which whilst not at the other end of the world is far enough for one gig if it doesn't pay well enough.

Of course Bob Potter might wish to continue minus Bruce

Hi Derek and all,
I sure hope something will come up for you Brits.
Me on the other hand will definitely not make the trip (from The Netherlands) as for me the main reason of attending SHADOWMANIA was seeing Bruce Welch play.
We've had The International Cliff & Shadows Meeting in Holland for over 25 years which in the last 10 years became a 2 day event organized by Joop & Jolanda who both sadly passed away within the last 2 years.
If something in the UK would be organized without Bruce, I am afraid it has little more to add for me personally (but then again I am not a player, I simply love listening to the music).
I will miss seeing all the dear friends I've made over the years though, which was the other thing I loved SHADOWMANIA for... meeting up with old friends and making new. However, I am afraid it's not enough to make me want to pay an afwul lot of travelexpences for, when it's only a 40 min drive from my hometown to Tilburg.
I am not sure if The International Cliff & Shads Meeting in Holland will survive, only time will tell, I sure hope it does.
If not... thank goodness for the internet, so we can atleast keep in touch via Multimedia etc.

Regards
Angel(ique)

There must be heaps of venues in and around that would be suitable for some sort of gathering.
It all depends on the scale.

I was only kidding about Bloxwich.

But not about Al Bakewell belly dancing.
