I think the Hellecasters also did OBS fast- probably John Jorgenson?- I'm sure there is either a CD or live DVD where they play it?...heard it a few years ago.

Return Of The Hellecasters. From the sleevenotes, "John Jorgenson: !st solo and acoustic rhythm, Jerry Donahue: 2nd solo, Will Ray: 3rd solo and bull horn".

Lots of great versions out there, but all the rock guitar* versions really reference back to The Spotnicks.

It certainly was an old fiddle tune, which southern US pickers also played on guitar- Chet, Joe Maphis and many others.
