Jim did say there are a few Cliff numbers that are different, so you're probably correct. One I'm familiar with is True Love Will Come To You - the mono version is the better one (imho), both overall and also the solo goes round twice.

Chas.

You're absolutely right. Hank plays different things on the stereo and mono tracks.
I put em side by side into Adobe Audition.
The LP they were on is Cliff Sings.

Well, I got a CD with stereo and mono versions, the original LP was probably in mono.

Hi Patrik about the Gretsch thing i could be wrong but i'am not aware Hank has recorded with a Gretsch. Having said that on the dreaded ebay one seller has listed a Gretsch country genleman and states as used by Hank Marvin on those early recordings.
Could just be a selling ploy!!!
I would have thought Ray L, Rob B or Jim N will know the answer to this one.

The Me and My Shadows LP has five significant differences between mono and stereo versions plus the fade out between the mono and stereo versions of Gee Whiz It's You is different...

Hi Ecca, re your Adobe Audition software, that’s the stuff for the troops – are you using the Mac version or the Windows version?

Adobe software is brilliant stuff, I already use Photoshop, Lightroom and Dreamweaver for other web sites – but now I’ve got back into guitars I think I really do need some suitable computerised multitracking facility that’ll give me the sort of track bounce and editing arrangements I used to have with my old 1” tape 8 track Tascam machine donkey’s years ago.

One thing though, does, or would “Audition” allow you to do a ‘drop the speed’ kind of effect (like Les Paul did) from 15ips to 7.5ips in order to get that “piccolo” sound of guitar in the mix? Did the Shad’s themselves ever use such an effect?

Isn’t it terrible this “having to learn from scratch” guitar thing once again? I shouldn’t have allowed myself to run a thirty year break from it! Mind you, it’s really champion that there are forums like this one now in existence – the wide knowledge base of everyone here is really inspiring. There’ll certainly be someone here to knows the answer to whatever you want if you ask – as seen in this thread alone – it’s really taken off hasn’t it?

Cheers,

Alan.

I've got Adobe Audition 3 which I love.
You can slow things down but it isn't as simple turning the speed knob on the old Tascam 38.
I'm currently scratching my head trying to get the surround sound to work with it in Windows 7 64 bit.
It won't.

You can bet your boots it's going to be drivers somewhere along the line. My Win 7 64 bit does exactly the same with other software!

Or - I've just thought (in addition) they haven't even written the 64 bit software yet!

Cheers,

Alan.

Realtek all works OK, all the surround speakers operate as they should, and I've set 5.1 as standard but
nothing else recognises anything other than 2.1.
Grrrrr

Alan,

I'm pretty sure Hank used the 'piccolo effect' as you describe it on 'Friday On My Mind' (Jigsaw) - near the end of the track.

Without reviving the Gretsch controversy of some years back, it is known that Hank did record a few tracks with a Gretsch - 'Nivram' for one, and a few Cliff numbers, the names of which escape me at the moment...
