You live and learn. I assumed that the 1962 Brian Hyland version was the original.

THE original was a lead balloon by The Four Voices in 1960. It was Brian Hyland who made it a Hit (no 3) in 1962

As a previous poster said, it does sound a lot like his last album 'Guitar Man'. I hope it'll be better than that but i can't see how California Girls would translate to the guitar (the original is the best).
So, the album is to be called 'Hank' how long did that take to think up? What about calling it 'Hank Plays summer' with a cover filled with bikini clad girls sunbathing? :D

Maybe this will be Hank's last solo album and the title probably makes it full circle, as his first album was called "Hank Marvin".

Hank first said that he was going to retire during his 2000 solo tour and it is now 14 years later.

I'm pretty sure Hank would soon become bored with a life not playing music of one type or other... there's a limit to how much tennis one can play in retirement!

The man who defined the sound of a generation releases his 15th solo album. Eponymously entitled ‘HANK’ the album features newly recorded interpretations of some of Hank’s favourite summer-themed music, along with one new original recording ‘Summer Guitar.’ It’s Marvin’s first new album release since his 2007 UK top-ten hit ‘Guitar Man’ and consists of 14 tracks, 9 of which are arranged by Hank and his son Ben. The album also features some backing vocals from Hank’s daughter Tahlia. “These are tunes which all have some kind of connection with summer,” explains Hank. “The titles I’ve chosen are all very recognisable, which is important for this style of album. But also they’re vehicles which enable me to be creative and still approach them in a way that people will know that it’s me playing.” Hank Marvin is one of the most influential guitar players of all time and has enjoyed a long and successful career, He regularly features high on the list of polls that determine the greatest guitarists of all time and his unique sound and subsequent influence on popular music cannot be underestimated.

I must say that this track listing fills me with despair, all covers apart from 1 track.

Even great players can only do so much with covers (as opposed to new interpretations)...however good to see Ben & Tahlia are on the album

I hope I am wrong & it turns out to be a really good, well thought out album that will make me go out & buy after I've had a listen to a few of the tracks, but sadly I don't think it will.

Happy to be proved wrong

Dick.

By that definition then these are not Covers as they are "new interpretations".
I wonder if the wonderful Chet Atkins got slapped down ( I was going To say " slagged off" but I won't :D ) for his many albums of "interpretations" or were they all just worthless Covers too.
