Thanks for that.

Maybe Hank should try playing gypsy jazz on an electric guitar his way, that would be interesting. I would much prefer to hear Hank playing his own stuff.

My favourites:

A Taste Of Honey
Summertime Blues
Summer Guitar
Summertime
Summer Of '42
Waterloo Sunset

Would really love to see the drama of the new style arrangements on new material (needless to say!).

Don't go for 'Sealed', 'Good Day' at all and probably won't ever play them again. Re 'Cal Girls' - prefer Warren's version and again unlikely to play Hank's.

Others are simply OK - which is of course 'good' compared to most music these days.

CD is very well worth it for my 6 favourites though!

Well done all concerned in delivering something fresh and new in many of the arrangements.

As far as I am aware, at least one person on this forum 'may' work for the BBC, so maybe he can give us some idea as to who we should target if we want to get Hank used as the World Cup theme (or even just as background music during the show). Although I can claim to have gone to the same school as David Beckham, I'm afraid that my influence in all matters football is nil.

I will have a look on the BBC website for ideas/inspiration...

:D

Whilst this is a lovely idea there's less than two weeks left till the first match of the World Cup. I'm sure the BBC will have finalised the music and opening credits for their coverage long ago.

I think as with almost every album I have ever bought there are tracks I like, tracks that are OK and tracks I won't play again in a hurry. Mike Barnes has demonstrated this perfectly with his choices. We will in all probability not totally agree with Mike or anyone else as we will all feel differently about all the tracks.
Hank has to be commended for working in his 73rd year to produce such an album and as long as he wants to play we will enjoy his version of those tracks I am sure but maybe not all of them.

That's certainly true. However, it does seem to be the case that music used during highlights shows, edited highlights, etc... are often chosen on the spot, as it were, by the editor concerned. So, yes, whilst I agree that there is almost certainly no chance that it could be used as the main theme, I still think that it could be used somewhere during the extensive coverage that we have to come. As it happens, I myself know someone who MIGHT be in a position to help, so I shall have a go - although I'm more likely to miss the goal than get the ball in the back of the net!!!
