Hope his new album is in a similar vein.

It's a personal thing but I thought Into the Light was a really good album: all the originals were good and Jessica, We Are the Champions and Rikki... were good covers. "Great, this is Hank's new direction..." I remember thinking - but from Heartbeat onwards you could sense he was bending to the will of the record company's market research department again - although the arrangements were always more imaginative than on The Shadows LPs from '79 onwards.

just my opinion...

My favourite Hank albums are "Hank Marvin", "The Hank Marvin Guitar Syndicate", "Words And Music", "Into The Light", "Heartbeat", "Hank Play Holly" and "Hank Plays Live". I very much like all of Hank's solo albums, but those seven are among my favourites.

I have a Question: When I read many of these comments? Is this an anti Hank page?

Just because you like a band, it's not compulsory to like everything the individual members do as well you know!

(If you need proof that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, try listening to any Paul McCartney solo album.)

Into the Light is a very good album and has some great originals (such as the title track) but i think Heartbeat is a notch or two above it.

A great first post!

No, in answer. But this is a 'Shadows' fan community and not a 'Shadows individual members' fan community. In response the post above, I know plenty of Beatles fans who love John Lennon but literally can't stand Macca. And for a variety of very good reasons.

For my money, the best stuff Hank has done outside of the Shadows have been his 1977 Guitar Syndicate album; Words and Music and some of the stuff from his first '90s albums. Much of the rest has done nothing for me. 'Summer Guitar' on his last album was by far the best track.

On balance, I'd say that Brian's non-Shads output has been by far the best of all of them. Although, as Cliff's producer, Bruce's has probably been the most successful.

I'm a massive Beatles fan but i don't religiously buy their solo efforts, i do own a few Macca and Lennon albums, one Harrison album and nothing by dear old Ringo!
As for Hank, i buy everything i can that's released, i only have 1 Bennett album though.

funny that as back in the mid seventies many people loved Paul McCartney and had almost forgotten John Lennon !

Lennon's 'retirement' from music in 1975 went virtually unnoticed by the media and public !

just as in 'Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out)' on 'Walls and Bridges' album where John wrote and sang;

'Everybody loves you when your six feet in the ground'
