Did anyone hear the vocal version of "Apache" played on Radio Two's "Sounds of the Sixties" radio programme today? I was driving when I heard it and I think Brian Matthew said it was by an American artist, Sonny something or other, didn't quite hear the surname, apparently it was a hit, does anybody else on here know more about it, and was it before the instrumental version or after?

The vocal version of Apache was by Sonny James, an American Country Music singer/songwriter, who is best known for the 1957 hit "Young Love", apparently. Apache vocal was a hit in 1961, so after the Shads version. There are a couple of postings on Youtube of the song, and it was posted on this site some time ago. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Baz

I suppose it proves the other side of the some vocals never make instrumental coin that some instrumentals should never be vocals, dance on being an exception.

Found it! It says 1964 but if I remember, I think it was a bit later on in the 60s than that.
