Let it be Me

Postby captainhaddock » 08 Jan 2014, 17:44

Prompted by the recent death of Phil Everly, I was searching for the Shadows version of "Let It Be Me". I came across this live version from 1964 and mention of a Shadows LP that had it as one of the tracks. Can any one tell me the title of the album ?. Many thanks in advance !

Sorry, I thought you meant the studio version. I'm not aware of any legal release which includes a 'live' version.

The studio version was recorded in january 1965.

"Let it be me" was originally a french song "Je t'appartiens" (I belong to you) composed in 1955 by Gilbert Bécaud.

There is a live version on Cliff Richard and The Shadows 'Live in Holland 1964-1965' released by Aulica some time back. I believe it was one of those Italian releases that was legal at the time!

Thanks, Andy - I hadn't checked the 'unofficial' releases.

Indeed an illegal release now. The CD was mainly compiled from the concert on the 18th of September, 1965 at the Eurohal in Valkenburg, The Netherlands in the province of Limburg. Five out of the twelve Shadows tracks were from the concert on the 6th of May, 1964 at the Veilinghal in Blokker, The Netherlands, where a month later The Beatles played for the first and only time in The Netherlands.
The Shadows performed this track between 1965 and 1968 in John Rostill's period with the group and quite a while later in the early 1980's, from about 1982 to 1984/1985, when Alan Jones and Cliff Hall were with The Shadows. The version of "Let It Be Me" during that period, featured Hank and Bruce singing, accompanied only by Cliff Hall on piano.
