According to what I read on social media, it appears we lost Dave Sampson on Wednesday. Rest in peace.

I don't wish to be obtuse Donna but can't say I've ever heard of him.

On a separate matter I've noticed there seems to be a plethora of RIPs being posted. Maybe we need an obituary page setting up. I thank you, exit stage left. ;)

What a shame that the seriously underated Dave Sampson has been taken from us. I first became aware of him when Robbie Januarsa (suaragitar) uploaded his own version of "The Storm"on You Tube and I even managed to obtain a copy of a CD by Dave's group "The Hunters" via Amazon. Apart from the Wonderful sound of The Hunters, what impressed me was the fact that Dave actually took the time to write and encourage Robbie and would also exchange correspondence with other You Tube correspondents even non players like myself.
From previous mentions of The Hunters on this forum, I seem to recall that Dave may have been considered as Bruce Welch's replacement when Bruce was planning on leaving The Shadows in about 1963?. I believe that The Hunters even deputised for The Shadows when Cliff was performing maybe because they shared management ?
I would urge you to seek out The Hunters on You Tube and enjoy "Golden Earrings" amongst other tracks on offer.
RIP Dave Sampson and thanks for everything !

I am suprised that a few people have not heard about Dave Sampson especialy with his connection with Cliff Richard .The Hunters backed Cliff in 1960 while The Shadows stayed in America when they were on tour.At least two of The Hunters are no longer with us some of us are getting old now.

Very sad news Indeed!

The Hunters backed him on a few songs, notably "Sweet Dreams" on Cliff Richard shows in the early 60s. Unfortunately he was not very well known, "Sweet Dreams" was his only hits ( only peaked to no 29 on the UK singles chart).

Dave Sampson did write me a nice and encouraging note about my guitar playing and sound, etc,. He also told me about the Hunters, when and how they recorded "The Storm". A very nice gentleman.

RIP Dave Sampson.

Regards,

Robby

My apologies for not knowing this gentleman, but I have heard of The Hunters and I did perform The Storm when I was part of The Vibratos, so this is sad news - RIP Dave.
