And there was I - getting my hopes up!
lol!!
Been some good April 1st spoofs in the Press today - my fave in the Guardian about Scotland when they become independent changing to driving on the right - to show European solidarity - and changing Motorway M numbers to S numbers (for Scotland) and A roads to N roads (for National).
cheers

One of my favourite April fools was perpetrated by the BBC Breakfast Time show many years ago. Good Friday fell on April 1st that year, and it was the tradition that no national newspapers were printed on Good Friday. However the BBC created a spoof set of newspapers and staged a discussion on the news items. They even got an MP in to join the discussion. A great many people were taken in by it, myself included.
I'm also old enough to recall Richard Dimbleby's legendary spaghetti tree.

I recall that on 1st April in about 1979, Granada Television reported from behind Liverpool's Town Hall that the city council had declared independence from the United Kingdom.

The OB was a dead giveaway: Granada Television would rather have died than do a programme from Liverpool (the biggest city in their region).

Apparently - according to one of my Facebook friends who is a staunch 'yes' campaigner - The Sun ran the story about the Scots driving on the right about six weeks ago...

One of my favourites (April Fools jokes, that is) from many years ago was announced on Radio 4. It stated something along the lines that the EEC was introducing a new regulation that there would be a minimum tread pattern on the soles of shoes to cope with ice on pavements and that police could stop and measure. Anyone failing to have sufficient tread would be fined!

That'll be fun to watch on the M74 and on the Berwick On Tweed bridge as they attempt to change sides of the road. lol!

Loved the April 1st spoof that put Alex Salmonds head on the new Scots coinage. Brill!!

After all, Sweden changed from left to right driving in 1967, and survived !
