I saw that the Charlton Heston film - The War Lord was on Channel 4 this afternoon. I watched a few minutes - enough to hear a few orchestral phrases which tallied with the Shads single of the same name back in the '60s. I can't say that what I saw inspired me to watch any more but interesting to see a bit of the film which spawned a Shads hit - albeit, a minor one.

Perhaps it's just me. but the only reason I have ever looked at this film is because I am interested in the theme music because of the Shadows. I have always found the film to be like watching paint dry.

Looking back fifty or more years films like this seem dated or corny, but the idea then would to get a hit record with a tune associated with a current film.I went to see the film French Dressing which had music composed by Brian Bennet ,it was terrible.I don`t suppose that Maroc 7 is much better.

French dressing was the first film by the director Ken Russell, who became a fairly controversial figure in British cinema; Maroc 7 is a lightweight forgettable thriller, with a woefully miscast Leslie Phillips (who was one of the producers).

Obviously it's only my opinion, but I love the Shadows version of the "Maroc 7" theme. It is very, very high amongst my all time favourite Shadows tracks. I believe that they were commisioned to provide the soundtrack and were too busy to comply so passed it on to Paul Ferris ?. As for the "Maroc 7" film, it stinks, with old Leslie Philips making it smell of stale ham !. I have the DVD, but only for completion sake only. We have been denied the " privilege" of watching "French Dressing" as a movie, perhaps for a reason ?. The only clips on "You- tube", do not look exciting but again, because of BB's soundtrack, I might invest in a DVD for completion sake.

I saw 'French Dressing' at the cinema as the B movie to a main feature whose title escapes me. FD was, as George says, as equally forgettable.

I didn't even know a film existed called French Dressing till i noticed the song was published by 'Elstree Music' then checked out and found there was, if i remember, didn't Brian write the whole score or just the title song?
This was his first time doing this and he said later he was really nervous.

The IMDb website lists Georges Delerue as composer for the score, so Brian probably wrote only the title song.
