Top of the pops 1979/May 10th

No one seems to have mentioned this, but LAST WEEK'S Top of the Pops 1979, on BBC Four, was the edition from May 10th 1979 that saw the Shadows performing 'Cavatina; the theme from The Deer Hunter' for the first time. Nice to hear Mike Read referring to them as 'the group that launched a thousand others.' Also on the bill is Gary Moore playing Parisienne Walkways.

The line up of Hank, Bruce and Brian was complemented by Mo Foster on bass and Dave Lawson on keyboards.

I imagine that it may still be available on the iPlayer for a few more hours. Next week's show, which would have seen them on it again, seems to have been pre-empted by a repeat of The Sky at Night. A shame. Hopefully this edition WILL be shown at some point.

Yeah. Mind you, in the show mentioned, I think only Mo Foster was the 'wrong man', so to speak, as I'm sure Dave Lawson IS on keyboards on the actual record. Next week's show, which as I say, I suspect we may not get to see, had the correct line-up of Marvin, Welch, Bennett, Lawson and Alan Jones. The two previous appearances with Don't Cry For Me Argentina definitely deviated somewhat from the line-up as heard on the recording, as we had George Ford on bass and Alan Hawkshaw on keys.

Always pleased to see them on the show (or ANY show) no matter what the line-up!!! :D

Funnily enough , the next performance after the Shadows is a disco hit One Way Ticket by Eruption.
Some people will know that Roger Paullson has done a nice guitar and backing track version of this tune.
Boney M have also done a version too!!!

Mike

Sedaka doesn't dance as badly as the Boney M bloke though :)
