Theme From "Rhythm and Greens" in TV advert

I just saw a Corona Beer commercial on US television and they used the "Main Theme from Rhythm and Greens." It caught me by surprise, so I am not sure if it was the actual recording or an imitation, but it had the guitar riffs and the vocals (Yeah baby, ooh ahh). The commercial was shown during a professional hockey playoff game, and it was the first time I ever saw it.

I will assume that this is a legal use of The Shadows' song but, in the event that it isn't, if anyone on this site knows the appropriate person to notify (i.e. Bruce? Brian Goode?), I thought I would let you know.

I do not know what the current copyright laws are in the US, as to whether it's 50 years or 70 years, so that might make a difference. If the song was Copyright 1964, then I guess it's been 50 years. I was kind of proud for a moment when I first heard and saw the commercial, but then I started to wonder whether they had the legal right to use a Shadows song in an advertisement.

Thanks.

Kind regards,
Donna

Parlophone (perhsps it'd be Capitol) should lose no time in issuing Rhythm And Greens as an American single and as a download.

You never know - it might be a hit.

A good bit of coverage there for the lads. All publicity is good, get the single out ASAP. :)
I just called Bruce to let him know in case he wasn't informed. Thanks for the info Donna & Martin.

Sadly i can't see that being a hit (it wasn't even a big hit first time round) but anything that promotes the Shads has to be a good thing.

It's obviously an important advert for a major brand, so I guess they can't afford not to do it legally...

That's only for the recording rights (which should be owned by EMI), but composer's rights last much longer.
