Would Elvis have benefitted from having an instrumental backing band as did Cliif. Perhaps The Ventures !
I liked Scotty Moore but he was never really allowed to perform in his own right or take some limelight. I think the Shadows enjoyed a high profile which undoubtedly with their talent helped them with their success.
Elvis in the Sun days was refreshing and inspiring. If Scotty and the band had developed we might be including them with the Shadows v Ventures comparisons

It certainly was the case, when Elvis came back from the military service, "Colonel" Parker decided to drop Elvis' rock sound with Scotty Moore to make him record with large bands to appeal to a larger audience. It didn't work for me, I was highly disappointed with the "Elvis is back" album, and stopped buying Elvis' records...

i agree with ecca and didier parker mishandled elvis the guy had so much talent, with a decent manager he would have got involved with far better stuff than he did. but then again the shadows were led down the wrong path in my opinion, they were taken down the cabaret circuit far to early in there careers they should have hung on to the rock roll longer. peter

I suppose at the time with the film industry growing pop stars would be big attractions. At least the Shadows were involved in the plot and were part of the action as it were and we got some good memories and fine performance like the Savage. Poor old Scotty ,Bill and DJ were completely side lined. Hey ho that's life
