The Shadows' first visit to Finland

Hello all! This is my first post. I have just registered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shadows' first concert in Finland. They had appeared elsewhere in Scandinavia but they didn't come to my home town until 28 May 1964. Cliff Richard was naturally with them. They gave two open air concerts at the Helsinki amusement park called Linnanmäki, and if my memory serves me right, there were about 20,000 people to watch them.

This link opens a picture taken of them during the concert: http://www.echoland.net/main_linkit.htm The Shadows obviously played many of their biggest hits but I do remember very clearly that they opened with In the Mood, which they had just recorded. The weather was rather cool, about 12 degrees Celsius, but it didn't rain. Most of the crowd were standing as there were seats for only a few hundred people in front of the open air stage. No tickets were sold for the concert. All you needed to do was to buy a regular LInnanmäki admission ticket.

Funny that while the Beatles were being handed their awards, we heard the Shads playing!
