`The Saturday Night Rock n Roll Party` with Geoff Barker.
BBC Radio in the UK West, South-West and Channel Islands.
SAT JUNE 14: On this week`s show:- After 7pm a one-hour special with HANK MARVIN. Recorded when I met up with him in London last Friday.(Face to face, much better than down a phone line.)
With tracks from his new album `HANK` and also him looking back on his rock n roll years:-
The early days of Cliff & The Shads, including touring the USA in 1960 on a huge package show which played Lubbock Texas and where he met Buddy Holly`s Dad!;
The story of acquiring the UK`s first Fender Strat and how it was very nearly something else;
How `Apache` came about and what he thought of Jorgan Ingman`s 1960 version which made US #1;
His own early rock n roll guitar heroes and fave rock n roll guitar solos, plus the covers of Shads tunes that he likes;
Why the `Live at Kingston` 1962 album lay unreleased for nearly 40 years…. and just who was Flingel Bunt?
Appearing on Jools Holland TV show along with Imelda May and Darrel;
And much more.. (we chatted for an hour!)
Also nice tributes to Jet, Tony and John Rostill.
And of course, the… “You Must Be Hank Marvin” TV ad.
