Just had news on a Facebook page 'Remembering British Country Music Bands', that Eric Snowball has sadly passed away. As well as being a superb Pedal Steel player, he of course repaired and distributed Binson Echorecs for many years. A good friend to many.

yes sad if it's who I think it was I used to visit his shop in Maidstone, but I was told the shop closed several years ago because he had died then, I bought several bits and pieces from him and also sold him a Vox continental organ.

Every time I went in he'd say "just tell your wife no holiday this year and buy a pedal steel instead" - that certainly would have been "A Bridge Too Far"!

Sad news, Had many chats with him before and after buying his ESE Mk 6 special edition. probably not see his like again.

Very sad news. I purchased My ESE Echomatic 1VR from him back in 2003 and it's still going strong, it's probably the nearest to 'That Sound' I've heard IMHO. I told me some time ago he had lung cancer, then he sold his buisiness.
He was such a helpful and knowlegable chap. God Bless you Eric. RIP.

RIP Eric - he's a bit of a legend in these parts especially with the youngsters of the 70s who roadied for him doing PA with top flight bands of the time (Kool and he Gang was one I know of) and with the youngsters of the 60s music scene. He supplied guitars and equipment to many. I had the privilege of playing on the same stage as him a couple of years ago and his pedal steel playing was superb.

My son took an Encore P bass copy with a dodgy jack socket in to him a few years back - when he got it back it not only worked correctly but appeared to have souped up output - dunno what he'd done to it but it was great!! If you went in his shop and asked for leads he would make them up for you there and then if he didn't have what you want - my current bass rig speakon leads are from this origin and remind me of that when I use them,along with a very early Ashdown set up I bought from him.

A true character from the 60s era and will be missed by many.

A unique character... I have special memories of the Bat-Cave beneath the shop and Eric's irascible comments on all and sundry. His passing leaves a big hole...
