Can anyone tell me if the Shadows ever recorded an album with a Pedal Steel Guitar player on it? I recently heard a couple of tracks which sounded very much like them featuring Steel Guitar.

Could be Kay Das who has recorded Shadows style CDs on his "Steelocaster".

To the best of my knowledge the Shads have never used pedal steel, though John Farrar's Palm Pedal-equipped Telecaster could emulate a steel sound...

There's a bit of pedal steel on a couple of Hank Marvin solo items. The one that comes to mind is Wahine (the 1969 B-side of Goodnight Dick), though there might be another one or two.

my pedal steel playing friend reliably informed my that there is Lap Steel on that recording and not pedal steel... Pedal steel has pedals and knee levers that raise or lower the pitch of stings... A lap steel does not. Just checked out an interview with Kay Das (the guy george mentioned) and it seems he plays the lap steel.. not the pedal steel. Hi.
John Farr brought a sho-bud pedal steel guitar from Eric Snowball many years ago,it was a single neck with two knee leavers and three pedals.
I know this as my former wife used to work for Eric Snowball. Where this now is anyone's guess. Paul Franklin is one of the top players in Nashville.
There are not many of them I have not meet over the years. John Farr was very cleaver with the palm leavers on his guitar so it looks as if both were used.

I Don't know if a pedal Steel was used but I was at De Lane Lea when they were mixing the album that became Tasty. When we got to Colorado Songbird, Jihn Farrar said: 'This could put the Pedal Steel Guitar back twenty years!'

Bryn Haworth certainly played pedal steel guitar for Cliff Richard but not, as far as I know, for The Shadows

B.J. Cole is a top British pedal steel player who worked with Hank on Des O'Connor's Another Side LP (which Hank produced). Another of Hank's solo tracks which featured pedal steel was the middle section of Tokyo Guitar from his 1969 LP.
