?,,,,,nostalgia time.....my first show was at the Queens Theatre in Blackpool....1962 or 1963 I think......The Shads were touring on their own without Cliff.....Still remember the Red & White Strats and Vox amps on chrome stands.....straight from the back line in those days and was loud enough to fill the theatre...
Same holiday featured a show on a Sunday night on the South Pier....Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, The Tornadoes, Gene Vincent are all that I can recall....those WERE the days.....
Good link for looking up the old package tours....

March 1965 at the London Paladium with Cliff in Alladdin.
The white Burns & Vox amps. Sound from the backline there too and in-house PA for the vocals.
Preferred it that way, sounded more live as it should be.

My first time was on May 15th, 2004 at the Theatre Royal in Norwich, England. The first time I saw Hank solo, was on April 19th, 2000 at the Congresgebouw in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Thanks to that link, I now know I saw Jet Harris on 21st October 1962 at the Walthamstow Granada on the same bill as Little Richard and Sam Cooke!!
I didn't actually see The Shadows 'proper' until the 1969 tour after Bruce had 'left' and was replaced by Alan Hawkshaw. The night I saw them, at the Finsbury Park Astoria, Hank was unwell and they appeared as a three piece playing Nivram, Little B and Exodus to feature each of them in turn.

It was in 1962 or 1963 at the Floral Hall in Southport, brings back pleasant memories.

I nearly saw them at the London Palladium in '67/68(?) in the week that they split with Cliff...............Nobody told us that the Shads were not appearing, so we had the pleasure of watching Cliff with Chris Barbers Jazz Band.........I've not got over that yet!
I finally got to see them in '77 at Bristol Colston Hall.
Pat.

The only time that I've ever seen The Shadows was at the Liverpool Empire circa '61/62/63.......unsure exactly which year, but I'm sure that a resident 'expert' will know! I remember being really surprised (and disappointed) to see that 'Jet' had cut his hair really short and changed the colour! What I hadn't been made aware of prior to this show, was that he'd been replaced by Brian Locking hence my puzzlement at this strange-looking Jet persona! This was the first 'concert' I'd ever been to and was dressed in my non-school, Sunday best outfit of C&A sports coat, fawn cavalry twill 'slacks', horizontal-striped, shiny narrow tie with squared- off ends and brown shoes. Managed to get a seat in about the 3rd row from the front, so had a good view of all the gear. I was completely mesmerised by the whole experience. Was also the first time that I'd made the trip unaccompanied from my home on the Wirral over to Liverpool. Wild, exciting times eh........?
Stephen.
