Shadows Anthology?

I wonder if the "Shadows"have ever thought of making their own version of "The Beatles" anthology with all the studio chat & out takes plus unreleased tracks & out takes etc. I'm sure it would be a bestseller.........or did they used to wipe everything in those days?

I think the Abbey Road compilation is the Shadows' answer to that request. Those involved listened to loads of material and selected what they saw as the representative best.

Having listened to that album nearly all the tracks are shadows hits with the strings removed "Atlantis" etc Why didn't they use "Barneys Blues" the influence for Nivram" complete with Jet Harris bass solo. Which is available on you tube for those who didn't know. & there where probably some "interesting discussions" between Bruce & Jet.

That has a quite simple reason: EMI cannot release tracks which were recorded for Radio Luxembourg at their studios for the use in the 'Me & My Shadows' programmes. EMI has no rights on these recordings apart from the fact that those tapes have been wiped/destroyed since long times.

"The Shadows At Abbey Road" is one of my all-time favourite Shadows albums. CD firsts for the previously (on vinyl) released mono versions of "Benno-San", "Don't Stop Now" and "Tennessee Waltz". The only track previously available on CD is "Slaughter On Tenth Avenue". The versions of "Theme From The Boys", "Guitar Tango" and "Atlantis" are the only ones, which served as the basis to familiar overdubbed versions with strings. "Wonderful Land" and "It's Been A Blue Day" don't really fall into that category as those are alternate takes. Other great tracks are the stereo remixes of "Thunderbirds Theme" and "Zero X Theme".

I remember being really excited when this came out...I believe there was some disagreement with members of The Shadows over what should/shouldn't be included. It includes Nothin' Folks and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - it was good to hear these hitherto unreleased tracks.

What I've found interesting is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of visual material available from those days - people have explained it was too expensive to film concerts, etc. People didn't make videos either. The Beatles in comparison had the ill-fated Get Back album that involved hundreds of hours of film being made, for example. Their visual legacy has worked in by their favour both at the time and years later when it came to making documentaries. Their image and personalities are much more easily remembered/known by most generations.

It's like the book "the Beatles complete recording sessions"it goes through all of their recordings from "love me do onwards"& covers the instruments used and by who. It also covers the recording techniques used which effects were used & why.as everybody knows "Strawberry fields was made using tapes of different speeds which were joined together to get the effect John wanted ( which drove George Martin mad) also it explains some of the backwards tapes effects. In contras Victor Rusts Book on the""shadows"recordings tells you next to nothing about the sessions. Not even which guitars were used.
