The Local Heroes

One of the best Shadows-style groups in my opinion are The Local Heroes. I have all three of their studio albums, as well as the backing track CD. Don't get me wrong, all three studio albums are excellent, but I still wonder why Phil Kelly, Alan Jones and Cliff Hall were not involved in the making of the second and third album. Also, have The Local Heroes performed in recent years?

Yes they have, last year at one of the South Coast clubs, Barry tells me they are doing it again. :)

I know the "One Of Our Shadows Is Missing" album was re-issued on the See For Miles Records label with two additional tracks "Equinoxe (Part V)" and "My Heart Will Go On". A second re-issue was on the Scana label, with four additional tracks "Equinoxe (Part V)", "My Heart Will Go On", "Life Story" and "No More I Love You's". Also, both re-issues featured remixed versions of "Shindig" and "I'll Stand By You". As I only own the very first issue of the album, I have never heard the bonus and remixed tracks. What exactly is different about "Shindig" and "I'll Stand By You" in remixed form?

Hi Ivo,

As Dave mentioned The Local Heroes with Brian "Licorice" Locking performed a fantastic show at the Surrey Shadows Club on the 21st November 2014 to a sell out audience. We were also extremely delighted that Bruce Welch was able to attend, which was real icing on the cake for our members. Barry Gibson, who is the Patron of our club, is currently working on the return of The Local Heroes show on Saturday 5th December. As already announced, tickets for this event will be going on sale at our 17th April meeting.

Cheers,

You'd need to ask Barry. But the subsequent CDs are a great showcase for his own playing. I enjoy them often while driving.

I have seen the Local Heroes once on September 27th, 1997 at Motel van der Valk in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, during the International Cliff Richard & The Shadows Fan Meeting. The line-up then was Barry Gibson, Phil Kelly, Alan Jones, Cliff Hall and Clem Cattini. Jet Harris and Brian Locking were special guests and played six and five tracks respectively. It was a great show. I even filmed it and the sound and vision of the recording were (and still are) very good.
It was the very first time my father and I met Jet and Brian personally. We also bought a copy of the very first Local Heroes album "One Of Our Shadows Is Missing" and had it autographed by Jet and Brian.
Is the line-up of the Local Heroes the same nowadays?
