I was recently playing my CD of Specs Appeal (the Magic Records edition) and noticed the intro of Spider Juice had echo, i hadn't noticed this before, unfortunately my vinyl copy was packed away so i couldn't compare it but i'm sure it wasn't present on that version? If so, why would they add echo? I hate this tampering of old recordings!

I doubt that Magic Records would have added echo, it must have been there on the record they used as master. I only have the Magic Record CD, so I can't compare.

I have the Magic Records issue, as well as the 1992 UK issue "Specs Appeal Plus" and the original 1975 UK vinyl album. I have noticed the difference too. "Spider Juice" features echo on the Magic Records issue, but none on the vinyl album and original CD issue. I think it is an added effect by Magic Records, because I have heard these differences too on various Cliff Richard recordings, issued on Magic Records releases.

I've listened to the intro to Spider Juice in my iTunes directory (it was taken from the EMI "Specs Appeal plus" CD). I can't hear very much reverb on either channel. Obviously, there's some reverb there, but not so much that you'd remark on it.
I'm not in a position to listen to the Magic Records version.

I have Specs Appeal & Tasty on a digipack from Magic Records so i might listen to some more tracks and see if there's any more added reverb.
I've managed to dig out my vinyl copies of both albums to compare but will do it at some point but not tonight.
