I've still got one lying about somewhere which I used on my Strat in the late 70s after seeing Phil Lynott using one on his black bass; I thought it looked cool.

I couldn't discern any difference other than the fact that the height of the pickups will most likely be totally different to what they were with the plastic scratchplate. Being a 70s Strat, the plastic scratchplate was 3-ply and the chrome one was half as thick.

Don't most scratchplates have foil stuck to the underside anyway?

Hi

Olderek demo'd his new self made Strat at Cookham last night and it has a metal pickguard.

It sounded great so perhaps the pickguard added to the tone! I don't know if Derek fitted any additional screening - (perhaps you'd like to enlighten us, Derek?)

To my mind, the only drawback is that you'll have to spend a lot of time polishing it as it shows every fingermark.

Cheers.

Tony
