"Columbia" and learning from YouTube!

Postby Stratly » 06 Jul 2015, 07:15

Hello there,
Check out Eric Johnson playing 'Columbia' from his album 'Bloom' on YouTube. It's easily found.
It might make an excellent Hank Marvin / Shadows type tune with suitable echo added. The fast bits might need some alternate slant picking practice maybe!!!!
And on the subject of learning from YouTube clips and similar:- I recently discovered the 'Swift' app for iPad and iPhone, which enables you to download and keep similar videos totally OFFLINE, and 'Swift's' companion app 'Anytune' , which enables me to save just the audio off those clips OFFLINE on my iPhone and iPad.
Then I can change tempo, pitch, loop; and even set 'LEARN LOOP' which increases the speed ever so slightly on each loop playback. Plus loads of eq opportunities. Very cheap apps even with the 'Pro' type extras.
You are probably familiar with all this, but if not, I hope it's of interest.
Have a nice day,

Well I'm sorry to further cement my reputation as Shadowmusic's grumpy old man, but I couldn't actually hear a melody in there. Just sounds like typical modern rubbish to me; too fast and too much distortion.

Hi Uncle Fiesta!
Way to go! I haven't come across many guitarists who don't rate Eric Johnson, in fact you're the first; but that's entertainment for you!
One man's tune is another man's trash eh?

On a different tack; have you tried the two iOS apps I mentioned?
They really are great for learning and nailing down solos, if that's your 'thing'. (It is mine.)
Kindest regards,

No I don't bother with apps as I haven't got one of those I-thingys.

I don't do technology, I've only recently perfected the art of taking a guitar to bits, and having it still work when I put it together again.
