What shads tunes work well on acoustic?

Postby bgohara » 15 Dec 2009, 19:37

And don't say guitar tango!

I've only just got myself an acoustic - and was wondering which tunes, originally played on electric, might work well on acoustic?

I remember seeing Hank (along with Warren and Ben) play 'Dance On' on acoustic on tv (was it the Pebble Mill with Ross King - maybe 1994?) which worked really well - and I also remember seeing Nivram and (possibly) Jessica on tour - maybe 2000? Again these worked very well.

Just wondering if any of you have any other ideas for tunes that might work well.

Cheers!

Ecca,

I have the Italian release of "Genie With the Light Brown Lamp' by the Shads that has a 12 string acoustic lead, sounds good -IMHO a six string acoustic would do it justice too, especially with your skillful playing technique! (Don't get carried away with the impromptu praise, after all, it is nearly Christmas...........) ;)

Quite agree. I remember me and a friend giving an impromptu Shadows' recital on acoustics a few years ago and it went down really well.

Hi Bernard,
I guess we will find out on your return fron NZ. I think you have to start with Guitar Tango and take it from there,- look forward to it.

My favourite to play on acoustic is 'Las Tres Carabelas'.

The Lute Number is an obvious one. I love playing Fandango, Windmills of your Mind and now, thanks to Phil McGarrick's BT, Benny's Toon.

Update: After 10 years absence, now a born-again Hankie
