Just came across this on YouTube - not seen it before. Someone called "Pythonspace" bumped into Hank in a Post Office in Norfolk! He records Hank talking about his most recent Shadows recording - Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. He says this was 1970 but think it must've been 1969 as Hank says it was recorded previous January (December '68 according to Malcolm Campbell's book) and hasn't been released yet - it was eventually released in October 1969. I wonder whether Hank also discussed his solo recordings, future plans etc. I hope it's of interest...!

The session was something of a nerve-wracking occasion for Brian, by all accounts, as this was his first time in charge of a full size orchestra in the studio. It goes without saying, the result was pretty impressive!

These sessions were supposed to be the start of a proposed Shadows album of film themes but was never completed.
Only 2 songs were recorded in December 1968 then the project was abandoned.

There were arrangements, demo attempts or finished versions of:

Slaughter On 10th Avenue
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
The Big Country
Born Free
Lara's Theme (Dr Zhivago)
The Windmills Of Your Mind
Midnight Cowboy.

The Shadows had a rehearsed version of Lara's Theme but never made a satisfactory recording of it.

Most of the titles were eventually released as Hank Marvin recordings in 1969.

Were the finished versions the Hank LP versions or newly recorded versions?
This is interesting as there seems so much unreleased material slowly rotting away in the EMI vaults that we'll probably never hear!

Interesting. Someone got it wrong because 'Slaughter' isn't a film. It's a dance.

It is certainly featured in more than one film.

True... but entirely intended by Richard Rodgers as a film (as part of "On Your Toes").

The heading of the Vera Zorina clip is perhaps misleading in that it should be the 'Slaughter' sequence from the 1939 film version of the On Your Toes. However, the narrator describes the source correctly.
