Here's a scan taken from the TV Times -August 20th 1969. Hank displays all is trademark wit when talking about the other Shads and his voice. At least, I assume he's joking!! Speaking of which, I've never heard 'If I Had a Hammer' - or I don't think I have. Love to hear it and, of course, I'd love to see this performance. Fingers crossed that one day it'll surface.

Yes hopefully this could still be in some archive from ITV programmes?
On the recent Billy Fury documentary on BBC 4, there was a complete performance
of a song from the ATV series "All That Jazz" (1961) that is I think not in general circulation.?
Did not a certain Mr David Clark of 5 fame not buy up most of the surviving ITV music shows
of that period including Ready Steady Go,Cliff/Shads 60/61 NME pollwinners Concerts64/66 etc.
Maybe its time he should consider new official releases in best quality available, as his and our generation
cant hang around for evermore!!!
We live currently in hope, a wee list of what he has might be nice!!

By the time they both formed Thames Television in 1968, both ABC TV and Rediffusion had learned of the need to archive their programme material.

Programmes from ABC or Rediffusion which were continued by Thames tell the tale best. "Callan" and "Public Eye" suffered from re-use of videotape from the ABC days but exist in full after the move to Thames. "This Week" (Rediffusion's flagship current affairs offering) hardly exists before the Thames days but seems to be much more nearly intact.

The odds are that Thames TV - now in the hands of Fremantle - does have this show in its archive somewhere.

I read somewhere that after Thames took over from Rediffusion in 1968 all the old tapes were taken away and dumped, this can't be true surely?

How fantastic it would be to see that! Goodnight Dick on the Sooty show. I was a big Sooty fan back then (I'd have been 5!) but we were never allowed ITV on in those days (although a special exception was made for Randall and Hopkirk a couple of years later) I could read every word of my Sooty annuals, though.

I'm afraid it might be - for part of the archive at least, though "dumped" for tape usually means "re-used".

But some of the Rediffusion archive (and the rights to it) were sold.

For instance, Dave Clark (of Dave Clark Five fame) famously bought and still owns the rights to all extant footage of "Ready, Steady, Go!".

The rest of the A-R and Rediffusion (London) archive (such as it is) passed from company to company and now resides with an outfit called Archbuild.

ABC's archive (as well as all Pathé and ABPC material) eventually found its way into the hands of French media giant CanalPlus.

Dave Clark appears never to have shown the slightest interest in making available any material from the period (though copyright issues may be a complicating factor in this respect), and, to the best of my knowledge, the original DC5 album, A Session With The DC5, has never been reissued (in the UK, at least) in any shape or form!
