Whatever Happened To Ernie Shear?

It is pretty well known, that the Lead guitar part on "Move It" was played by Ernie Shear and not by Hank Marvin. I have often wondered if anyone knows anymore about Ernie Shear?. What other hits did he play on ? Has he ever commented on the possibility that it could have been him and not Hank who became a legend and was he just the slightest bit miffed how things turned out ?

A member of this site or the previous site was in contact with Ernie very recently. Can't find the thread but someone will know the details.

I've got a 78 of Norrie Paramor's Orchestra playing 'Johnny Guitar' which actually credits "Ernie Shear: Guitar". It's a fantastic version of a great piece of music. It would be interesting to hear of other recordings featuring his leadwork. Don't forget High Class Baby/My Feet Hit the Ground. Someone asked about him a while ago but I don't think anyone knew of his whereabouts now. As far as I know he's still alive!

I had a search for 'Shear' on this site to see if I could find an extensive thread of some months ago about the man. Although I found several references, it must have been on the last site that the discussion took place.

Martin.

Very little about Ernie Shear on the Internet. All I can recall from previous discussions is that he's now retired - but still alive and well.

Bests....Rob :D

I think comparing Pete Best to Ernie Shear is stretching things a bit! ;)

I don't think the comparison to Pete Best holds up in any way. Ernie Shear was a highly successful session musician and he may not have any regrets about his career.
