The bassist is the late George Ford who did one Euro tour, and some TV shows.

As many here know, George Ford was the son of Emile Ford, whose band The Checkmates included Alan Hawkshaw, also later to be associated with The Shadows..

Hmmm....

I always thought that George was Emile's younger brother.

This website:

...seems to bear that out.

If George had been Emile's son, and bearing in mind that he was in his sixties when he died, Emile would have to be a very old man.

Just as a matter of interest, there were actually 'Three' Fords in The Checkmates . Emil (Sweetnam) and his two Step Brothers, George and David (Sweetnam-Ford) on Bass & Sax respectively.

In his autobiography, Bruce mentions Emil Ford as being one of the first to use backing tapes on stage.

"he asked his group (The Checkmates) to record all the music they featured together in the stage act. Emil then turned the tapes into backup tracks - and sacked the band. He didn't need them any more, and he went out on stage every night using two tape recorders for accompaniment. Definitely ahead of his time"

There is no mention in the book of George Ford (though Bruce must presumably have been aware of the relationship).
