This One's For Chris!

I'm delighted to announce that arrangements are now in place for a celebration of the life and music of my dear friend and colleague, Chris Jarvis.
On Sunday 11th September in the Northern Lights Suite of The Whitby Pavilion, Legend will join forces with local top-rated 60s Tribute Band, Five Divide (Lead guitarist: a certain T. Hoffman)
to pay our tribute to this great man whose lifelong passion was music of the Sixties, and, in particular the music of The Shadows.
Our great friend, Alan Jones, will be taking Chris's place and we'll also be joined by Matt Verrill on keyboards; David Martin will also be with us to play some of those great Burns Era tunes we cut our teeth on.
I've not said much, publicly, about my friendship with Chris. Terry's posting after Chris's death was announced was very erudite and comprehensive, and I just didn't feel up to adding to his words, such was my distress at losing my best pal and other musical half. Even now, writing this, I'm filling up thinking of the wonderful times we had just listening to The Shads' music. But when we got to play it for real and in front of an appreciative audience, we were like kids in a sweet shop. Other things followed, but the thrill of playing our favourite music with like-minded musicians never diminished. And that bass/drums rapport I had with Chris is something I'll always treasure.
Anyway, not to be morbid, I hope as many of you as possible can join us on September 11th.
The tickets are £8 singly, or £15 per couple. And I must stress that ALL of the proceeds will go to Chris's two nominated charities...The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and Bloodwise.
The doors will open at 7-30. It's a big room, and we're expecting a large crowd, so we'd advise getting there early
.
Tickets can be obtained from:
Box Office: Tel: 01947 458899
Enquiries: spaenquiries@scarborough.gov.uk

Please, folks, if you're resident in North Yorks/Cleveland/Teesside/Durham/WHEREVER and you love the music of The Shadows as well those other great Sixties acts, give yourselves a treat, and come and say 'Hello' we'd be thrilled to see you.
If, however, you're unable to come but would like to make a donation in Chris's memory, please go to

or

Thanks for reading this, folks &
love to all,
Mart

Howdy! again, folks,
I'm delighted to announce that cheques have been posted to Chris's two nominated charities, The Anthony Nolan Trust, and Bloodwise. Each cheque was for @£1575 and we claimed the Gift Aid on both, adding another few hundred to each one.
I must say a HUGE THANK YOU to all who attended our tribute to this great man and his favourite music. It was a real blast having David with us on stage again, playing those great Burns tunes Chris loved so much. Martcaster Jnr. provided the orchestra brilliantly; and we can't forget the thrill of playing a full set with the great Alan Jones. A cursory run through on the afternoon was all he/we needed to cement the arrangements for both instros and vocals, so that, come the night, we had a really tight and enjoyable set.
A huge thank-you must also go to Five Divide, our local Sixties tribute band http://www.fivedivide.co.uk/ they are a truly awesome band when it comes to getting a crowd on their feet, and the contribution they made to the whole day was immeasurable. Finally, some of you will remember our old mate, Jimmy Lupton, who did us proud once again with his inimitable compering duties. So, thanks, once again, for all your support, both financial and spiritual. This lovely man and his contribution to our beloved music will never be forgotten; and thanks to you good folks others afflicted by this terrible illness will benefit in no small part.

A plea: I've found a reference to our Tribute Night on Youtube, but it's a private site. If any of you know whose site it is and can persuade that person to share the link with me privately I'd be eternally grateful. P.M. me @ my address (in my profile)

Thank you John. I was unable to be there, much to my regret. This is a great video of a fine performance. If you have 20 minutes to spare, watch it. Shadowmania by another name.

Well done to Legend and Jonesy. Chris would have been proud.

Well, that was 20 minutes very well spent. Legend really hit the spot for me - congratulations to you all.
Cheers,

John, my dear boy, thank you so much for this. Just come in from a crappy morning amongst the nation's newspapers (who's this Trump character they're all going on about? looks like one of Arthur Worsley's cast offs) Have already d/loaded it from Y/Tube and am reminiscing and reflecting on a great night. Thanks again, everyone; especially you, John.
Love to all,
Mart
