Justin Hayward was interviewed on on Radio 2 this week and mentioned he'd been jamming Buddy Holly songs acoustically with Bruce and Marty Wilde last week.

I've always thought that Justin Hayward was probably influenced to some degree by the Shads. When I listen to his acoustic rhythm playing on 'Question' I hear Bruce.

The mystery and depth of it, and the minor key darkness and major key relief absolutely captured me. It was the summer of 1960. I once played, briefly, in a band that included a chap from Swindon, who had been to school with Justin's brother. He said he had seen the lad himself playing a few times, and he was doing all the Shads tunes perfectly at the age of 14 or 15.
