LEGEND in Whitby

As you perhaps know, I left the band some years back as a result of increasing arthritis in my hands. Those of you who follow the band will know that in recent years, Burns era tunes have been missing from the repertoire. So I'm excited to let you know that the band are back with a show dedicated to the memory of our buddy, Chris Jarvis, with the proceeds donated to the two charities dedicated to research into the cancer which took his life.

The best bit for me, is that I've been invited to take the stage for one more time as a guest, and to play a short Burns set - complete with dickie-bows! And the big bonus? Alan Jones will play bass! It would be good to see you there... Whitby Pavilion (Spa) on Sunday11th September...

Not long now to the show and we're all looking forward to it. Legend will open and Whitby based 60s band Five Divide will close the show. I'm playing in both bands so will be worn out by the end of it!!

It's been a funny couple of years because before Chris passed away his treatment often meant we couldn't rehearse as a band or take on gigs. The gigs we did accept were infrequent and we stuck with the familiar 'Fender' numbers we all knew without too much to worry about. We all still love the Burns numbers but the gigs we do are mainstream 60s events and we felt obscure album tracks or B-sides from the Burns period wouldn't go down too well.

We all miss Chris and he was the drive behind the group. However, we hope to continue with Legend because that's what he and his family wanted.

Hoffers

PS I have started a new Shadows Facebook page 'All Their Own Work' focusing on the band's original songs. Come and join in the fun

Just to add to the postings of my esteemed colleagues. If you're anywhere within striking distance of Whitby on Sunday 11th September, please come and join us and help us pay tribute to this dear friend and outstanding Bass player. It's not going to be a sad occasion by any means. We intend to give it 200% and make the most of this wonderful music which has inspired us for the past fifty years and more. As the old adage goes, "Be there, or be square" Looking forward to seeing you all on the night; come and say "Hello" it won't be the same without you.
Love to all,
Mart

I thought it was an afernoon event and saw the poster on Facebook that it is in fact in the evening, when unfotunately we had already made family plans in York, so sadly we won't be able to come.
