This has to be the ultimate crossover for me: my favourite guitarist playing the theme from my favourite SF TV series!

Sorry Chris, I really like Murray Gold's stuff. Saw him giving a talk at the RAH a couple of years ago, and the Symphonic Spectacular tour was brilliant!

Hmmm... to me his stuff is just generic orchestral stuff, kind of Harry Potter meets Star Wars, There was a point where he was using loads of choir voices as well. No, I much prefer the Dudley Simpson stuff from the 70s.

I am intrigued by some of the rumours/revelations surrounding the new series - John Simm back as The Master, The Mondasan Cybermen, David Bradley as the First Doctor, A brief glimpse of the Movellans last week and the debut of an Ice Warrioress !!! I doubt that I shall watch them all, but certainly the Ice Warriors ep and the Cybermen (right at the end).

I'd like to hear what Francis Monkman or the Bennetts could do with the theme (must be due for a change soon).

first time I have heard that and I thought it was great. call it what you want just "generic orchestral stuff" or whatever name you put on it. personally i cant wait for the vinyl to arrive. but if its not to your taste don't buy it simple really. peter

I think Chris's comment about 'generic orchestral stuff' was in connection with Murray Gold and his scores for Doctor Who, not Hank Marvin!

I am looking forward to Hank's new CD and I am sure Chris is too.

Indeed. I can't imagine why I would ever describe Hank's music as 'generic orchestral stuff'. Probably a good idea to read the entire thread before replying me thinks.

i take as someone trying to dumb someone down. things do get taken the wrong way in emails and may bet hat's what happened here. peter

Too sanitised and middle of the road for my taste. It lacks that gutsy, awesome sound of the original 1963 theme.
