Sunday Telegraph Hank Interview

There is an interview with Hank in the Business and Money section of today's Sunday Telegraph. Bruce is mentioned but has been given his Eurovision role as The Shadow's bassist!
Incidentally, whilst listening to Geoff Barker's excellent Rock'n'Roll programme last evening, I'm sure I heard him say that Hank was now not coming to the UK for promotion of the new album. Does anyone else know of this?

Hello All
Bruce did indeed play bass on 'Let Me Be The One' on the night at Eurovision so I suppose the article is correct in that sense. A great pity if Hank doesn't come over to promote the album it would have been great to see him again on all the usual crap interview programmes!

I knew that of course Jim. Maybe I didn't word it very well. Eurovision was not mentioned but Bruce was attributed the overall role as bassist in error. Quite an interesting piece though and I expect it is available online.

Not that he actually PLAYED the bass live, of course. Just (sort of) mimed to Alan Tarney who, in turn, sat at the piano and mimed to either John Farrar or Brian Bennett. The vocals were, of course, live. Which, in a way, was almost a shame, all things considered.
Maybe it's just not worth the time and expense and effort to come all the way from Oz just to do a few rubbishy TV shows where he's asked the same rubbishy questions by pea-brained idiots who don't really know who he is. The exception being Jools Holland. I assume he used to visit Ben and Tahlia as well, but now that they are living in Oz too...
Maybe he'll just do skype call to The One Show or something?

I fear Hank's management is likely to be responsible for the rubbishy questions. They will provide an interviewer's brief to make sure "suitable" questions are asked. On his last tour everyone asked the same ones, which rather gave the game away. It would take a real muso, such as Jools Holland, to pursue more interesting avenues.

You should be able to register for free - so long as you only read one article! It was good to read but not very revealing. I know it sounds prurient but I'd be interested to have a vague idea as to his income from record sales, publishing and touring over the years. The quote in the Mike Read book "1977 was the year The Shadows became businessmen first and foremost", has always interested me...

Here is the article verbatim including the mistake about Bruce. I've copied it and pasted into a basic Word document.
