Brian Bennett's collaboration with Georgie Fame

Hi all,

It is well known that Brian Bennett plays drums on Georgie Fame's album "All Me Own Work" (UK 1972, Reprise K 44183). The line-up was of course Georgie Fame (voc, kbd, syn, g, toys) plus Brian Odgers (b), Brian Bennett (drms, toys) and Colin Green (g, toys).

I recently came across a picture on the back the single cover to Georgie Fame's "Ali Shuffle" b/w "Round Two" (Germany 1974, Island 13790 AT):

The pictures show Georgie Fame and his Blue Flames as they were on tour in 1974.

I am now wondering whether this line-up or a part of it also played on the "Georgie Fame" titled album (UK 1974, Island ILPS.9293). I know the rumours about Brian Bennett's participation but have never found any proof of it.

Perhaps someone here knows more. Many thanks in advance for any help.

I remember chatting to Brian at this time about it. He said the had Alan Skidmore in the band and it was a very good Jazz ensemble. He said the punters kept shouting, "Can you play 'Getaway'"!!

He said he really enjoyed it

Apparently it was not all happy families within the band with several rows between band members it said in the newspapers. The show at Dunfermline Carnegie Hall started nearly 90 minutes late and the hall was giving out tea and coffee or a refund if you wanted to leave. I stayed on and it was worth the wait, it was a brilliant show.

Many thanks for clearing up the situation regarding the Island "Georgie Fame" album which helps me a lot.
I knew about the "Ali Shuffle" single but was uncertain about the album.
Also many thanks for the info about the live recordings on the "Survival: A Career Anthology" set. I wasn't aware of them at all. Thankfully my standard mail order shop over here had a copy of this set stocked and it was also on offer with 45% reduction. Lucky me.
I had read a few press articles about the '74 tour but did not know how to judge them, so thanks for your personal impressions.

Very interesting. Bass player Carl Radle was only 37 when he passed away in May 1980 "from a kidney infection, exacerbated by the effects of alcohol and narcotics" (according to Wikipedia).

Excellent research, guys. Always good to see a post from Phil Jarvis.
