"Penny Lane" – Ray Swinfield, P. Goody, Manny Winters and Dennis Walton on flutes, Leon Calvert, Freddy Clayton, Bert Courtley and Duncan Campbell on trumpets, Dick Morgan and Mike Winfield on English horns, Frank Clarke on double bass and David Mason on piccolo trumpet

Was just checking out the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour entry on wikipedia - and I spotted some session guys who were apparently on 'Penny Lane'...including the name 'Frank Clarke' on double bass - is this the guy who played on 'Move It'? And do you think the entry is correct? (why wouldn't Macca have been on bass?)

Any thoughts welcome.
Bernie

Yes, i can't think why Macca didn't play unless they had 2 bassists?!
Bit of useless trivia...Annette Brown is the very talented musician who plays piccolo trumpet with The Bootleg Beatles when they perform Penny Lane. Who taught her? None other than David Mason.

This session ensemble would need their own double bass in addition to Paul's bass guitar playing in The Beatles, just as Norrie would have booked double bass players as part of the string/orchestral backings for Shadows records.
