I agree with Jim,if McCartney is so interested in saving this iconic piece
of history, why not buy it himself instead of bleating on about it.
These so called stars make me sick, they jump on the band wagon for all sorts
of good causes, and I always wonder just how much of their own money they invest.
Answer is not a lot to nothing,a lot of the money is interest on their fortunes, donations made
in order not to pay tax,oh and don't forget the free publicity it get's them.

Whilst I have to agree with you that the Shadows mean little to todays younger generation. Abbey Road has been used to record the Worlds Great Orchestras and performers from the dawn of recorded music until today. I am sure that the younger generation would know that Oasis, Radiohead and Eric Clapton have all worked there. Abbey Road Studios is an icon in the world of music and were it to have been in say America or Japan or Australia , there would have been absolutely no question of a threat to its future. Obviously The Beatles are its most famous users, and that alone should ensure its survival for ever. We should be proud of the sixties pop culture and trade upon it as much, if not more than we do , Shakepeare, Gilbert and Sullivan and the Royal Opera House. I believe that because Abbey Road is identified mainly with popular culture, there is a great deal of snobbery attached to the idea that it has little importance compared with the Globe Theatre, but in terms of pleasure given to the World, it is of more importance, in my opinion.
