Great pic! I found the editors comments quite funny :-)

Just relating this post to the one about closing this forum; I wouldn't have found this picture had this forum not existed or been archived......

Yes it’s ironic that since Iain’s original post about the end of the site, there’s been an amazing amount of new posts! Just when you thought you’d seen it all…

I do not know how you can see details in that photo where the background is out of focus to me. But it is trivia like this that makes this forum interesting.

It is Peter Gormley It was taken on the day he officially joined There are a lot of photographs of that day

The date is wrong It's actually Nov 11th

What’s the source for that date, Stuart?
I ask because the photo includes Licorice on bass. His last recording with Cliff and the Shads, according to the Vic Rust sessions list, was A Matter of Moments on Nov 10th.
The next C&S session was on Nov 23rd, with John’s debut on bass, recording I’m the Lonely One.

After a bit of further research, I’ve found the picture in the Alamy library
https://www.alamy.com/john-rostill-right-at-the-emi-studios-at-st-johns-wood-he-is-to-join-cliff-richard-left-and-the-shadows-as-their-new-guitarist-the-shadows-pictured-in-the-background-he-is-to-replace-brian-locking-who-is-leaving-to-devote-more-time-to-being-a-jehovahs-witness-3rd-november-1963-image458765184.html?imageid=72AEDEA2-9328-47EC-B290-DF1AC34C8626&p=62486&pn=1&searchId=c4af4ce196ee0373a9fa7e6c3016f677&searchtype=0

This adds further uncertainty because Alamy dates it as Nov 3rd and I can’t trace a session to that day either!
On Nov 1st C&S recorded Do You Remember?, Theme for Young Lovers and Walkin'.
The next session was Nov 5th when they did On the Beach.
Might Nov 3rd have been a rehearsal day?

I'm wondering if Norrie is talking to Kenny Lynch? He was signed to EMI's HMV label around this period.

Do I detect, though, a beard on the gentleman in conversation with Norrie? Was Kenny Lynch bearded during that early period?
