Hi everyone,

I may be asking a question that has been covered many times, but could someone in the know enlighten me as to what Hank used to get the lead sound in stingray ? Was it the burns or perhaps something else ? It is such a low sound it could even be a bass with distortion !

According to Malcolm Campbells 'Pocket Guide to Shadow Music' ... Hank played this number on a Fender VI bass.

But there's more... it's a Fender Bass VI with distortion...

Live with Legend, I used the same effects as for The Warlord... distortion, a little reverb, and a double track Q2 preset patch...

The "Burns" sound is a combination of things... and A Place in The Sun has all the gizmos from that era present...

1) Top Boost amp channel: max bass, 2/3 treble
2) DeArmond 610 pedal permanently in circuit and used as required.
3) Tremelo amp channel: switched as required
4) Pickup selection: neck+middle.
5) A little reverb...

And if you want to play it live, the ability to use foot switches to move between 1, and 3, whilst operating 2... without falling over!!

And they say that Tap-Dancing is a dying art !!

Great to see your mug again on this site ... hope all's well in Lincolnshire.

We aren't going to make it over to the UK this year after all, managed to sell our Shadowmania tickets thenks to Derek (sob sob), but are hoping for another trip in 2011 if the pension agency can keep the dollars flowing in.

I'm not living in Sydney any more, moved down to the snowfields town of Jindabyne, it was -6C yesterday morning, just like being back in Cambridge.
