Bob Dylan was a Shadow once...

Postby cockroach » 25 Sep 2009, 05:04

Reading Bob Dylan book "Chronicles Part 1" again last night, I spotted this little snippet...

In about 1959, before he went to New York and became a folkie and then famous, Bob Dylan (then Bob Zimmerman) often played piano in local rock bands around the Minnesota/North Dakota area - including a few gigs in the band backing Bobby Vee (before he also became famous as a smooth pop star) whose backing group in 1959 was called...THE SHADOWS...

Not many people know that.... ;)

I think it's well documented that Bobby Vee's band was also called The Shadows. What I didn't know was that Dylan played with them at some point.

According to Bobby Vee, Bob Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan introduced himself under the name Elston Gunn.

Sounds as though it's an anagram of something!
