Internet Problems

Hi Guys

I am having problems with my internet connection and I was wondering if anyone else is having similar problems.

I am with BT and my connection keeps going down. The trouble started about a week ago. At the time I was getting a recorded message saying BT had a problem wich was being worked on. Yesterday my wife eventualy spoke to an engineer and managed to reset everything. A little while later the connection went again. She then spoke to another engineer and again managed to resolve the problem. About an hour later It went again while I was using it, and the fix we were told to use didn't work.

I am using Wndows 7 now as our old laptop died and we had to get a new one. I am now using the PC at work to yell for help and hope that among the many more technicaly savvy guys here may have any ideas on what may be going on.

Any suggestions would be greatfully recieved. Sorry if this is a bit garbled but I dont want the boss to catch me when I am supposed to be working :D .

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian

For what it's worth our BT connection has been very slow through August and into September, but seems to have sorted itself out over the last two weeks or so - nothing could be done about it 'our end'. I have a personal suspicion that it might have been caused by their McAfee virus protection, which has also coincidentally been completely changed recently and which now seems to be far quicker and less disruptive than it was.

I keep getting messages from Internet explorer saying this page can not be displayed and had been aborted! I then get their browser connection checker..But if I click on the back button all is well. This only happens on this site!

Hi Neil,
I can only assume that this must be some kind of localised problem. Personally I have never experienced any technical problems whatsoever with ShadowMusic.

Thanks for the replys Mike & Neil.

Mike, speaking to one of the guys at work he suggested that our Mcafee may be causing the problem but I dont know quite how to fix it if that is the case :?

Cheers

I've recently switched to BT as my ISP instead of Virgin who I'd been with for 7 or 8 years.

I must say that in the six weeks or so that I've been with them, BT has really impressed me with their internet speed and servcies they offer. As someone in the industry said to me recently "BT are the best of a bad lot"!!

Hi Brian

I've been with BT for some time and, although I've had various connection problems from time to time, it's been OK for a while now. I do find, however, that it helps if I reset the Hub on a regular basis - I do it about every 3 months.

Neil - I've experienced the same problem you describe over the last week or so. I've found that if I close the pop up error window and then click on the back button I can use this site normally (until it happens again) but then IE won't load any other tabs that I have open. I can get round this by exiting IE and then reopening it but it's annoying. As you say, it's only this site that's affected. I'm glad it's not just me that's having this problem!

Cheers.

Tony

Unfortunately I have never had a connection problem with this site that I haven't been able to identify as being caused elsewhere. I'll check the logs to see if I can find something in common between those who have had problems.

I have learned there have been router problems in a couple of places and these may be the cause.

Bob.

Does it do this with another Browser - eg FIREFOX? I use this in preference to IE now.
cheers

ps - it may be a "passing phase" with BT. Friends in Cumbria have had a bad two weeks, ending last week, where they were on and off. Finally the connection collapsed alltoegther and the Call Centre in India took 3 DAYS to sort it out. Depsite all the "its your computer/router/the line cable needs changing/unplug your PC and take it to the incoming line socket and plug it in there and try it" and other banal and useless advise, it WAS, in the end, a BT problem.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I never have trouble getting on to the site, It's just the last week or so that I have trouble with the internet connection failing.

Ian, I will have to get Firefox I think. We did have it untill our old pooter died but it is not on the new one. It sounds like your friends had exactly the same trouble I am experiencing now. I'll keep hammering them to try and get it sorted. If I can't get any joy I will go to Sky.
