Hotmail problem

Hi all.

My Hotmail address has been "hijacked".
I received a mail from a Yahoo address last night that re-sent it self to a lot of my contacts, which includes some of the members here.
All messages from me have a subject heading that directly relates to the contents, if any msg arrives that does not follow this format please delete
As a precaution I would advise that any passwords that are used in your mail system be changed.

Sorry for any inconvenience

Dick.

As mentioned in my email to you Dick, I received an email from you (as other recipients did) prior to the auto response. I have no contacts stored in my Yahoo mail account, so an email would need to have been received before an auto response was generated. I'm only pointing this out as the problem may well be earlier in the chain of events.

I've now checked my Yahoo settings and have switched off the auto response, so hopefully issue resolved from my end.

This is a major ongoing problem for many people. Alan, could you kindly (either directly here or via PM) please tell me how to check my Yahoo! settings and switch off 'Auto Response'? Yours hopefully,

Rob :? :D

There seems to be a lot of hijacking of Hotmail accounts at the moment, certainly amongst those with whom I correspond. Hotmail has always had a wee bit of a reputation in that respect.

Google mail seems more secure, and I use it for my second account.

Hi Rob, I've got to assume that I did pick up a virus at some stage, but don't know how. I deleted all my contacts in Yahoo as I have them all in my main Blueyonder email address book, but Yahoo is good for eBay, also it syphons out a lot of the dross.

Not only was the auto response turned on, there was a 'signature' added to the foot of my emails which was erm, rather rude.

Anyway, 'Sign In' to your mail account and in the top right (just below the search bar) you'll see three headings; Mobile, Options and Help.

Click on the Options and then on more options when displayed. You'll then see 9 options on the left hand side which you can then select, make changes as required and then save the changes.

Hope this helps.

Hi Alan

Just a note to acknowledge your post, I'm sorry if I gave the impression that this "spam" originated from you
Your mail was the first (in a long line) of spam responses that started on Fri night, it seems that it was to do with Viagra adverts as far as I can see from comments from people who were brave enough to open them.
One piece of good advice I have been given is to delete the Hotmail contacts list & type in manually if wishing to send a Hotmail message.

Hotmail seems to be on the brink of severe problems to me & I think it should be used with caution & suspicion until these things are "sorted"

Cheers

Dick.
